Working on Toeslagenaffaire

I’m currently working on a BNNVARA dramatized series of real events that took place in the Netherlands over the last 10 years.

The 3 part miniseries by director Joram Lürsen tells the story of the Dutch Tax Authority that, in order to fight fraud, pointed their arrows at young parents with not-Dutch sounding last names to claim back huge amounts of subsidies. These parents apparently made some mistake or filled out the wrong form, ending up having to pay back up to 80.000 euros to the government.

Lots of these families got into great financial troubles, lost their jobs, relations and sometimes even their kids. This resulted in divorces, bankruptcy and suicides.

The Dutch government has still not solved these problems and lots of people are still waiting for compensation
